Project Overview
The business events industry faces a global talent shortage and burnout crisis. To ensure the long-term health of the industry, the IMEX Group and Meeting Professionals International (MPI) sought to revitalize their legacy Future Leaders Forum into a modernized, continuous talent pipeline known as the Emerging Professionals Program. Strategy Table Pathways Inc. was engaged to lead Phase 2 of this transformation. Providing workshop facilitation and experience design services, Strategy Table Pathways refined foundational research into actionable strategies, validated new concepts through focus groups, and hosted the flagship Career Catalyst Workshop at IMEX 2026.

The Challenge
The MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) industry needed to shift perceptions and attract a new generation of professionals. The previous model relied on episodic, one-day events that often left students feeling disconnected and unsupported. The industry required a structured, practical, and inclusive programming model to bridge the gap between academic theory and real-world execution. Furthermore, there was a need to transition from “free-for-all” mingling, which often isolated introverts, to highly intentional mentorship and structured matchmaking.
Strategy Table Pathways’ Phase 2 Solution
During Phase 2 (Ideate, Validate, and Develop), Strategy Table Pathways focused on co-creating solutions with students, faculty, and industry professionals. Their approach included:
- Focus Group Facilitation: Strategy Table Pathways led concept evaluation workshops to test new program frameworks and naming conventions.
- Curriculum Redesign: The team designed a two-day immersion framework that shifted away from passive, lecture-heavy formats to focus on interactive, practical learning and “durable skills” like crisis management and financial fluency.
- Brand Proposition: They recommended a comprehensive brand development process utilizing the StoryBrand framework to ensure the program effectively positioned the participant learner as the “Hero” and the industry as the “Guide”.
Experience Design in Action: The Career Catalyst Workshop at IMEX 2026
A key Phase 2 deliverable was the “Career Catalyst” at IMEX 2026, hosted by Anthony Vade and Ryan Hill of Strategy Table Pathways.
This 3-hour session was designed as an action-packed case study marathon.
The workshop’s experience design featured:
- Action-Based Learning: Participants formed teams of eight and received a detailed event-planning brief with intentional gaps.
- Role-Specific Roundtables: Teams rotated through fast-paced networking sessions with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) from diverse fields, including hotels and venues, audiovisual, sustainability, catering, and AI solutions.
- Reverse Mentorship: This structured matchmaking replaced awkward mingling, allowing students to ask targeted questions to uncover missing execution pieces and explore lesser-known career pathways.
- The Talent Pitch: Serving as a proving ground, the workshop concluded with the top three teams pitching their innovative event solutions directly to industry leaders.
Outcomes and Future Trajectory
Through expert facilitation and experience design, Strategy Table Pathways successfully transformed the traditional job fair model into an active talent incubator.
The Phase 2 insights and the success of the Career Catalyst Workshop provided IMEX and MPI with a validated roadmap for Phase 3 execution.
By delivering a scalable “Licensed Event” format and recommending a 365-day community ecosystem, Strategy Table Pathways established a framework that not only empowers emerging professionals but also offers corporate partners direct, continuous access to a fast-tracked, highly competent hiring pool.
