Two years ago, we undertook a process to create a single, overarching brand for our group of four diverse organizations. Our goal was to send a clear signal that at Profoundry, the whole truly is greater than the sum of our parts when it comes to delivering on our vision of a more sustainable, prosperous, and socially just future. Of course, the branding exercise has been nothing compared to the opportunity and the challenges of actually bringing together four distinct organizations strategically, logistically, and culturally to deliver on that promise.
The real challenge has been in aligning our diverse teams and missions into a single, cohesive force for change. Strategy Table Pathways has been an indispensable partner in this process. As a founder, I built something I believe in. My problem was that it could go anywhere. My work is universal, which sounds like a strength until you realize it means too many doorways and no clear place to start.
I was also anti-niche. Every piece of advice said to pick one small audience, and it never fit my work. Narrowing down felt like leaving behind most of what I’d lived and built.
Anthony helped me see it differently. Choosing a first segment didn’t mean shrinking the work. It meant sequencing it. He helped me map a journey where one audience moves through everything I’ve built, gradually and in the right order. Nothing gets left out. It just doesn’t all happen at once.
That’s how he got me from endless possibility to something tangible: the right first doorway, a clear sense of how my work becomes relevant to that audience, and a plan to test it. He named it plainly. I’d been in the divergent phase, researching, building, and ideating, and I’d done more than enough. It was time to converge.
I walked away crystal clear, and more confident in what I’ve built and that it’s worth putting into the world.
